Hi, I’m Sofia, and I’m the Deputy Editor & Media Partnership Manager at Thred. I also work closely with Gen Zers from around the world on exclusive articles and live interviews to promote the inspiring work they’re doing to make the world a better place.

During my time at the University of Exeter where I studied Spanish, I chose to spend my year abroad teaching English in Argentina and working as a journalist in Colombia before travelling across the continent with my camera.

Returning to the UK to pursue a Masters in International Journalism and an internship at National Geographic Traveller, I eventually found myself at Thred’s doors.

Now, I balance my time between obsessing over mushrooms, practising yoga in the middle of the office, and telling everyone about the new song I just learned to play on the bass guitar.

Psychedelics are on course to be a catalyst for mass mental health

Psychedelics are on course to be a catalyst for mass mental health

Poised to be the hottest new therapeutics since Prozac, psychedelics have come a long way since their hallucinogenic hippy heyday. Last year, upon discovering that a growing number of scientists had begun asking whether mind-altering drugs such as DMT, magic mushrooms, and LSD could help treat trauma, addiction, and depression, I posed a question: do psychedelics have the potential to transform mental health? Almost twelve months on, and the answer is...

Exclusive – Meet Christina Adane, the Gen Z activist fighting food poverty

I spoke with the 18-year-old next-generation leader about her tireless work to achieve meaningful change in a world where all young people deserve the opportunity to be healthy. Long before Marcus Rashford brought the UK’s child hunger crisis to global attention, with his open letter to Boris Johnson challenging the government's deprivation of free school meals to 1.2 million youth,

Why has Lush decided to quit social media?

The cosmetics brand is deactivating four of its accounts until platforms ‘take action to provide a safer environment’ for users. In an increasingly connected world, the idea of a leading company quitting social media seems unthinkable. Alas, just this week, British cosmetics brand Lush announced its decision to quit Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat across all 48 of the countries it operates in. Part of its ‘Global Anti-Social Media Policy,’ the retailer...

Since 2019, plummeting economic conditions in Lebanon have pushed three quarters of the population below the poverty line. Among the many repercussions of this financial downfall – which has seen local currency lose around 90% of its value – a dramatic rise in the cost of sanitary products,...

London’s river Thames is no longer ‘biologically dead’

London’s river Thames is no longer ‘biologically dead’

The city’s famous waterway has been revived and is now home to hundreds of wildlife species including seals, seahorses, and sharks. With COP26 drawing to a close, leaving activists exhausted, frustrated, and sceptical of the pledges made by world leaders, I’d say it’s due time we turned our attention to some positive news (unless you’re galeophobic, of course, in which case you may disagree). As of this week, the river Thames...

Has fashion been adequately addressed at COP26?

Has fashion been adequately addressed at COP26?

Sustainability advocates have been urging world leaders to recognise the fashion industry’s role in resolving the climate crisis. Have their cries been heard? Despite its significant contribution to the climate crisis, fashion has been surprisingly absent from the conversation at this year’s COP26 summit. A quick comb through our daily live coverage of the event shows no mention of the world’s third most polluting industry whatsoever. For a...
