Jamie Watts

Editor in Chief London, UK

I’m Jamie (He/Him), the Editor in Chief at Thred. Keeping up with gaming, tech, and culture is my thing, but when away from my keyboard, you’ll probably find me wrapped around a large Tango ice blast at the latest mediocre horror flick. Follow me on Twitter, LinkedIn and drop me some ideas/feedback via email.

Hi, I’m Jamie, and I’m the Editor in Chief at Thred.

I studied Freelance Journalism at the British College of Journalism before heading straight into sports writer roles for several football news outlets. Following Manchester United’s decline, I had an immediate change of heart and generously decided to lend my talents to Thred. Now, as the tech and gaming buff, I spend my days obsessing over transformative innovations while grazing on fresh fruit and the occasional hobnob.

Often referred to as the resident cockney, I like to break up the daily hustle by irritating the rest of the office. I also love a headline image on Photoshop and get aroused by a tasty gradient.

Originally billed as a bougie social media platform where everyday people could join in conversations with celebrity and influencer A-listers,...

According to data published by the Norwegian Refugee Council’s Internal Displacement...

Could satellite deepfakes become a national security threat?

Could satellite deepfakes become a national security threat?

Geographers are becoming increasingly concerned about the spread of AI-generated satellite imagery and its potential to create hoax content or skew visual reports. Some even suggest it’s a threat to national security. When discussing deepfakes, most of us think of Nicholas Cage memes, unresolved issues of non-consensual pornography, or doctored political propaganda. What doesn’t immediately jump out is the potential for AI-generated imagery to manipulate satellite photos of cityscapes and countryside. This...

Plastic waste report reveals 20 firms produce 55% of single use plastics

A troubling climate report has emerged this week revealing that 20 companies are responsible for producing more than half of the world’s single use plastic waste. At Thred we’re anything but shy in our condemnation of single use plastics and their continued fuelling of an environmental crisis. As of this week though, we may finally start to get some accountability from those most responsible. An aggregator firm called the

Carbon emissions are reportedly shrinking Earth’s stratosphere

Carbon emissions are reportedly shrinking Earth’s stratosphere

New research confirms long harboured suspicions that humanity’s emissions are shrinking Earth’s stratosphere, with its thickness reportedly contracting by as much as 400 metres since the 1980s. Science is starting to draw regular connections between humanity’s role in climate change and marked shifts with the planet, and the latest reports are seriously concerning. Just last month, data from the American Geophysical Union revealed that humanity’s ceaseless emissions have separated the...
