I’m Jessica (She/Her). I’m the Deputy Editor & Content Partnership Manager at Thred. Originally from the island of Bermuda, I specialise in writing about ocean health and marine conservation, but you can also find me delving into pop culture, health and wellness, plus sustainability in the beauty and fashion industries. Follow me on Twitter, LinkedIn and drop me some ideas/feedback via email.

Hey there, I’m Jess, the Deputy Editor & Content Partnership Manager at Thred.

Originally from Bermuda, I moved to London to get my Master’s degree in Media & Communications, and to start a new adventure in the big city.

In my free time you can find me with my nose in a book, working on my endless Spotify playlists, or meeting up with friends to enjoy a bite at our favourite restaurants.

After working for a couple years in Amsterdam, my love for telling a good story led me to join the team at Thred to spread the word about positive social change.

The New Raw upcycles marine plastics into stunning beach furniture

The New Raw upcycles marine plastics into stunning beach furniture

Marine plastic pollution, but make it trendy beach furniture. That’s what one Rotterdam-based studio called The New Raw has been up to in the last few months. You know what they say: don’t bring sand to the beach. But it’s 2022, and I think we can agree that ‘don’t bring plastic to the beach’ is far more relevant as we deal with the ever-growing problem of plastic pollution. A design studio based...

There is no real snow at this year’s Winter Olympics

As climate change causes shorter winters and warmer summers, what will happen to the world’s biggest snow sports competition? This year’s Winter Olympics may look no different to any other from the outside - but this is the first time in history where close to 100 percent of the snow on the mountains is artificial. On the man-made slopes of Beijing’s Yanqing district, snow guns have already used over 200 million...

Nasal tanning sprays are TikTok’s latest questionable trend

Nasal tanning sprays are TikTok’s latest questionable trend

Experts are worried that unregulated substances found in tan-enhancing nasal spray could have serious health consequences. While self-applied tanning lotions have gained popularity over the last two decades for being kinder to skin, many people may still be making a trip to the sunbed, especially as we enter peak winter paleness. Deeper-tan creams containing low levels of SPF typically facilitate the darkening of sunbed lovers as they sprawl out under UV...

Opinion – Ratajkowski’s book is unapologetic and non-committal

The model entered her career believing that people generally focused more on what women look like than what women had to say. Through her book My Body, she’s finally giving people an opportunity to listen. Upon hearing about this book release, my initial reaction could be easily compared to some of its most upvoted reviews online. What could a famous, wealthy, and undeniably beautiful woman really teach me about womanhood, capitalism,...

We need to talk about fashion’s current obsession with balaclavas

We need to talk about fashion’s current obsession with balaclavas

The face-obscuring wintertime fashion accessory is having a moment, but many argue that jumping on the trend requires having a specific level of privilege. It’s the end of January, and guess what? It’s still freezing outside. Enter, the balaclava – a sock for your head. Designed to slide over your skull and neck to keep out cold air, while also covering part (if not all) of your face aside from the...
