Hourglass Cosmetics has pledged to go completely vegan

  • Style

Cruelty-free beauty brand Hourglass Cosmetics has pledged to go completely vegan this year as the rising demand for more ethical products pushes the industry to think more consciously.

Similar to what we’ve seen with the ever-growing popularity of plant-based food, there’s been a significant shift in the beauty industry as of late, with more and more brands going vegan to satisfy their ethically conscious consumers. Pioneering this shift is Hourglass Cosmetics, a luxury beauty brand that’s striving to go completely vegan by the end of this year. Cruelty-free since its launch in 2004, the company is dedicated to innovating the world of luxury cosmetics with high-performing makeup that’s 100% ethical.

From its Instagrammable marble blushes that I seriously can’t get enough of, to its crazed-over mineral primer, it’s a go-to for beauty products that you can rest assured haven’t been tested on anything living. ‘We believe beauty and integrity should be synonymous,’ says their website. ‘That’s why we are as uncompromising with our products’ performance as we are with our commitment to animals.’

Now working to totally eliminate the use of animal by-products in its goods, Hourglass Cosmetics is replacing all non-vegan ingredients with vegan alternatives. This includes beeswax, lanolin (derived from sheep wool), and carmine (a dye made from beetle’s wings) which all require some form of unethical practice for manufacture.

Although it’s not the simplest solution, it’s definitely a #woke one, and there are plenty of vegan counterparts like plant-based oils, milks, and butters that can be used – ones that are also a lot less likely to irritate your skin. It’s a win-win really when you consider that people are beginning to be a lot more mindful about what they choose to put in and onto their bodies, so here’s hoping that other brands decide to follow suit.
