Prospect 100 and Kering launch sustainable design competition

Prospect 100 is partnering with luxury clothing group Kering for its latest competition, which asks to redesign an existent garment and make it sustainable. Up to $20,000 worth of prizes are up for grabs – including a PR workshop by us!

Fancy yourself the next Alexander McQueen? Passionate about all things sustainable and eager to repurpose your wardrobe?

You may want to check out Prospect 100’s latest free-to-enter contest, the 2021 Global Design Competition, which is open to anyoneΒ  25 or under.

Participants are asked to redesign an item of clothing that they own to be more sustainable, and applications will be assessed by a variety of fashion leaders. There are ten judges in total, each notable for their efforts in raising the profile of sustainability within the industry.

These include – but are not limited to – sustainable knitwear company Wehve’s founder Gesine Holschuh, model and actress Amber Valletta, and editor of Vogue Scandinavia, Rawdah Mohamed. Projects will be evaluated based on originality, feasibility, and efficacy.

You can enter with a team of up to four people. Applications are open right now and will close on September 6th, with the final winners being announced on September 24th. The top five groups will have a last-minute chance to push for victory with the judges via livestream – so it’s all to play for.


Partnering with Kering to create new opportunities

For this latest competition, Prospect 100 has teamed up with luxury clothing group Kering, who are the minds behind big brands such as Gucci, Balenciaga, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, and Brioni.

Prospect 100 co-founders Alexandre Daillance (also known as Millinsky), Harry Beard, and Adam Flanagan say they are β€˜thrilled to partner with Kering’, adding that it’s β€˜fundamental for us to partner with leading companies that inspire young people.’

Chief Sustainability Officer at Kering and head judge, Marie-Claire Daveu, also stated it was β€˜delighted to partner with Prospect 100 to bring the topic of fashion sustainability to the young people’s table.’

The company will be involved throughout the event, and will help with judging, organising prizes, and co-ordinate the logistics.


What are the winning prizes for the competition?

Now for the part you’re probably most curious by – the elusive prizes.

The winning team will be given a $4,000 cash prize, as well as an invitation to a Kering workshop on sustainability. They’ll also be gifted free access to the β€˜Shaping Fashion’s Future’ program, which was co-created by Kering and Institut FranΓ§ias de la Mode.

Anyone who enters will be given access to a PR-focused masterclass workshop, which is being led by Thred Media.

Yes, that’s right – us! Who’d have thought we’d make the big time, eh? We’ll be running this class for all who participate in the competition, so you don’t have to be a winner to jump in.

Co-founder Harry Beard expressed that he felt this was an β€˜exciting’ part of the event. β€˜So many young people either have a social change or a fashion focus.’

β€˜Anyone wanting to start a clothing brand or non-profit should apply to this competition. Whether or not you make the finals, every participant will get a lot of value fromΒ Thred’s workshop.’ Consider us blushing at the compliment.
