You can now buy hangover prevention pills

A Swedish pharmaceutical company has developed a supplement that claims to reduce alcohol concentration in the blood by half within 30 minutes of having a drink.

Unless you’re superhuman – or, of course, underage – likelihood is you’ve experienced a hangover before.

Enjoying a beveragino (or five) often leaves us bedridden, craving carbohydrates, and crippled by anxiety over how we vaguely recall behaving the night prior.

In worst case scenarios, the throbbing headaches, sweat-soaked sheets, and unrelenting nausea have us thinking our time has come. At least for as long as it takes the alcohol to completely leave our systems.

But what if I told you there was a magical pill we could take that, post-sesh, would have us up and at β€˜em before we even had the chance to think about getting a McDonald’s breakfast delivered?

That’s right, making this far-flung dream a reality is a Swedish pharmaceutical company which has successfully developed a supplement claiming to reduce alcohol concentration in the blood by half within 30 minutes of that first sip.

Trials of the 100%, natural, vegan, probiotic pill found that drinkers who had two pills and drank two glasses of wine had 70 per cent less alcohol in their blood an hour later compared to those who didn’t take it.

This is because, according to Drink Aware, the main cause of hangovers is the effect of ethanol, a toxic chemical that works in the body as a diuretic, which makes you pee more and become dehydrated as a result.

What Myrkl (aptly pronounced β€˜miracle’) does for the twelve hours it lasts, is break down the alcohol in the gut into water and carbon dioxide using the bacterias Bacillus coagulans and Bacillus subtilis so it’s unable to reach the liver.

Not only this, but thanks to the vitamins B12 and L-Cysteine it contains (which support immunity and boost energy levels), you’ll feel fresh as a daisy the next morning.

β€˜It’s a game-changing product,’ says CEO HΓ₯kan Magnusson, who adds that Myrkl is the first pre=drinking hangover pill ever to reach the market.

β€˜Moderate social drinking is a huge part of British culture, with the majority of British people heading out each week to enjoy a few drinks together.’

β€˜Myrkl’s purpose is therefore to help those regular moderate drinkers to wake up feeling their best the next day, whether they’re a busy working professional, young parents, or seniors who want to maintain an active social life.’

Available in the UK as of today, anyone intending to have a tipple simply needs to take Myrkl two hours in advance.

Obviously, however, using it doesn’t totally negate the negative side effects of drinking.

Dehydration and low blood sugar can cause hangovers too, and there are myriad adverse health risks from excessive drinking – there’s a reason that exceeding the weekly recommended unit-intake is warned against by medical professionals, after all.

But if you’re planning to have no more than a couple (how many times have we heard that one before) and forget to avoid the grogginess by downing water as frequently as possible (a tried-and-tested method I personally am inept at adhering to), Myrkl may well be the answer to your prayers.
