The Nobel Peace Center demands the immediate release of Nobel Laureate Narges Mohammadi, who is unjustly imprisoned and has been violated by guards due to her activism.
When you hear of someone who has won a prestigious award like the Nobel Peace Prize, you would naturally assume that they are held in high regard in their own country.
Unfortunately, Narges Mohammadi is being unjustly imprisoned for her gender equality advocacy and the abolition of the death penalty, however – the very causes for which she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023.
She also made headlines last month after being subjected to violence by guards in Evin Prison, Iran.
According to France 24, her family reported that Mohammadi experienced severe chest pain and suffered a respiratory attack after being punched in the region.
Even Mohammadi’s lawyer, Mostafa Nili, told Iranian news that her condition was raising concerns, as the prison refused to allow her to go to the hospital despite the doctor’s recommendation.
He also noted that the prison violated her rights to make phone calls or have visits with her family and lawyer.
Evin Prison, where political prisoners – especially those supporting the Women, Life, Freedom Movement – are held, is notorious for its physical violence and human rights violations.
In response, the Nobel Peace Center held discussions on gender apartheid and ultimately launched the Free Narges Coalition to call international attention to her unjust imprisonment.

What is the Free Narges Coalition?
Last week, on September 5th, the Nobel Peace Center held its annual conference, bringing together Nobel Peace Prize laureates, activists, decision-makers, and experts.
The conference specifically highlighted the Women, Life, Freedom Movement to emphasize the rollback of women’s rights around the world.
Among the attendees were Narges Mohammadi’s children.
Kiani and Ali Rahmani released a peace dove to mark the launch of the new coalition aimed at freeing their mother.
This cohort, formed by PEN America, RSF, and Front Line Defenders, demands the immediate release of Narges Mohammadi and seeks to amplify her voice in the fight for human rights.
