Hi, I’m Sofia, and I’m the Deputy Editor & Media Partnership Manager at Thred. I also work closely with Gen Zers from around the world on exclusive articles and live interviews to promote the inspiring work they’re doing to make the world a better place.

During my time at the University of Exeter where I studied Spanish, I chose to spend my year abroad teaching English in Argentina and working as a journalist in Colombia before travelling across the continent with my camera.

Returning to the UK to pursue a Masters in International Journalism and an internship at National Geographic Traveller, I eventually found myself at Thred’s doors.

Now, I balance my time between obsessing over mushrooms, practising yoga in the middle of the office, and telling everyone about the new song I just learned to play on the bass guitar.

On Thursday, OnlyFans – the subscription site that’s synonymous with selling nudes – announced it would be...

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, attitudes towards the ever contentious pro-choice/pro-life debate have shifted significantly both ways across the globe. Sustainability trailblazer Allbirds steps into activewear

Leading the charge in regenerative innovation, the footwear and apparel company has debuted its first totally eco-friendly athletic clothing collection. As we know from the recent IPCC report, which outlines fashion’s urgent responsibility to drastically decrease its impact on the environment or risk being largely responsible for our planet’s demise, the industry has a lot of work to do. However, waiting for brands’ pledges to translate into genuine action won’t do...

Taliban’s pledge to respect women’s rights met with cynicism

The fundamentalist group has announced a generic policy for women’s inclusion in society ‘within the limits of Islam.’ Given Afghanistan’s history of female oppression, many remain cautiously optimistic.   During the last month, the world has watched in horror as the Taliban, taking advantage of America’s withdrawal from the region, has seized power in Afghanistan. Now, many fear the country will revert to its repressive past, one entirely absent of basic...

Fashion faces renewed pressure to become sustainable

Last week’s IPCC report urged clothing brands to act much faster to save the planet and Greta Thunberg’s condemnation in a Vogue interview shows the industry has nowhere left to hide. ‘Our message to every country, government, business, and part of society is simple: the next decade is decisive for climate action,’ said Alok Sharma, president-designate of the United Nations Climate Change Conference, last Monday. He was, of course, referring to...

Chosen to represent ‘Generation America,’ Ariel Nicholson has made history as the first transgender person to grace the revered fashion magazine’s front page. Though fashion still has a very long way to go in terms of achieving genuine inclusion and diversity, the industry does appear to have been making significant headway as of late. Namely, its exploration of a fluid future that could see brands stop operating within the boundaries...

Vollebak’s latest t-shirt design absorbs CO2

The innovative men’s apparel brand has partnered with US biomaterials company Living Ink to design a t-shirt dyed with black algae that will continue to absorb carbon dioxide as the consumer wears it. ‘Sustainable fashion’ is complex and although major brands often use environmentally conscious marketing, it doesn’t necessarily mean their products are truly helping to lower the industry’s carbon footprint. Vollebak – an innovative men’s apparel brand founded in 2016...
