Hi, I’m Sofia, and I’m the Deputy Editor & Media Partnership Manager at Thred. I also work closely with Gen Zers from around the world on exclusive articles and live interviews to promote the inspiring work they’re doing to make the world a better place.

During my time at the University of Exeter where I studied Spanish, I chose to spend my year abroad teaching English in Argentina and working as a journalist in Colombia before travelling across the continent with my camera.

Returning to the UK to pursue a Masters in International Journalism and an internship at National Geographic Traveller, I eventually found myself at Thredโ€™s doors.

Now, I balance my time between obsessing over mushrooms, practising yoga in the middle of the office, and telling everyone about the new song I just learned to play on the bass guitar.

Opinion โ€“ we arenโ€™t worried enough about our attention spans

Opinion โ€“ we arenโ€™t worried enough about our attention spans

Though people are discussing it openly online and trends have emerged to address it, our ability to concentrate is deteriorating by the day. Why does nobody seem that concerned? Two things Iโ€™ve noticed recently โ€“ both while commuting to work. For one, that all I ever seem to see these days is people looking down, staring blankly at the screen in their hands. Iโ€™m by no means exempt from this, I...

Will the UKโ€™s new spiking laws be effective?

Will the UKโ€™s new spiking laws be effective?

Seeking to ensure the safety of women and girls in Britain, the government is cracking down on this growing epidemic. With gender-based violence almost at a breaking point, however, the pledge must be matched with systemic change if itโ€™s to make a tangible difference. Itโ€™s common knowledge that gender-based violence (VAWG) is an ever-worsening issue throughout the UK and that local authorities arenโ€™t doing nearly enough to...

iโ€™m grateful for my people

iโ€™m grateful for my people

itโ€™s always a good idea to talk things through. When youโ€™re struggling with your mental health, the first piece of advice youโ€™re usually given is to ask for help โ€“ to be honest about it with someone you trust. Anyone whoโ€™s experienced the feeling of being at war with themselves, however, will know that itโ€™s never that simple. In this headspace, the mind can be unnecessarily cruel, coercing us into believing...

Cambridge Dictionaryโ€™s word of the year is โ€˜manifestโ€™

Clearly, 2024 was all about positive thinking. โ€˜Manifestโ€™ has been named word of the year by Cambridge Dictionary. Though itโ€™s more than six centuries old, itโ€™s been given new life on social media as of late, thanks to a slew of celebrities whoโ€™ve been using it to describe how...

Global warming confirmed to be supercharging deadly weather

A database of hundreds of studies compiled by Carbon Brief has provided overwhelming proof that previously โ€˜impossibleโ€™ heatwaves would have had virtually zero chance of happening without the additional heat trapped by fossil fuel emissions. Confirming what most of us already suspected, a new analysis has provided overwhelming proof that human activity is to blame for the ever-increasing intensification of deadly weather across the planet. โ€˜This study should...

What are the Taliban doing at COP29?

What are the Taliban doing at COP29?

The fundamentalist group is attending the summit for the first time since its violent return to power in 2021. Though objections have been raised, poverty-stricken Afghanistan is ranked as one of the most vulnerable countries to the climate crisis and itโ€™s for this reason that hosts in Azerbaijan extended the invitation. In 2021, the world watched in horror as the Taliban, taking advantage of Americaโ€™s withdrawal from the region,...

Why young people are turning their backs on busyness

These days, without the promise of a home, a salary, and a future on a healthy planet, it makes sense that Gen Zers are quitting the rat race. Exhausted, overwhelmed, and on the brink of total collapse, the concept of โ€˜soft livingโ€™ has never seemed more appealing. Ever since the end of pandemic, thereโ€™s been a brewing backlash against hustle culture. Triggeredย by Molly-Maeโ€™s controversial โ€˜we...

Are cigarettes on trend again?

Are cigarettes on trend again?

Amid the resurgence of smoking among celebrities and influencers, a recent study shows that 57 per cent of young people think itโ€™s fashionable, despite the risks being so well-known. Of every trend to make a comeback, smoking was an unlikely contender. Itโ€™s 2024, after all, the year that saw efforts to address nicotine addiction take centre stage. In the UK, Labour has banned disposable vapes and
