Lizzie Dyson is the co-founder of Ladies That UX, a company that provides open spaces for women in tech and promotes female skills and talents within the UX industry.
At the start of this year, The Guardian reported that women only make up around 17% of the digital workforce – a statistic thatβs mostly stayed stagnant for the past decade.
Lizzie Dyson, UX designer and start up co-founder, is trying to change this trend. Her non-profit company Ladies That UX organises meetings and social gatherings across the globe for women in the technology industry.
Speaking on the Twelve Scholars podcast, Lizzie said she started the company because she βdidnβt know any women in the industryβ, and felt that most technology based meetups βwere the sameβ. She wanted more informal, collaborative events that would be far more conversational than traditional organised meetups, and began the company in Manchester in 2013.
βWe donβt measure success on the amount of people that turn upβ, she says. βItβs more about the value each person gets out of the experienceβ. Today, Ladies That UX has groups across the globe, proving particularly popular in North America and Latin America.
