US President Donald Trump has unveiled a new gold smartphone and nationwide service network, fittingly titled ‘Trump Mobile.’ The business initiative raises questions about conflict of interest.
The Trump Organisation has just announced ‘Trump Mobile,’ a new smartphone line and monthly network plan that is set to cost $499 USD upfront with a $47.75 USD monthly charge on top.
Each ‘Trump Mobile’ phone is cased in a gold material, and will sport an etched-in American flag as part of the design. This latest business venture follows on from various other products released by the Trump Organisation, including watches, shoes, and even religious books.
The business is run by Trump’s two sons Donald Jr and Eric Trump, with both men hinting that more items are set to launch in the future.
According to the Trump Mobile website, its service network will match the coverage of mainstream competitors such as Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile.
The first version of its phone is dubbed the ‘T1’ and will reportedly include a 6.8-inch display, 50MP camera and 5000mAh battery. Similar features to other products such as a fingerprint sensor and AI face unlock will be present.
A headphone jack is also included, making it distinct against Apple and Samsung’s current flagship products. It will use Android 15 as its operating system and requires a $100 USD down payment when purchasing.
Spec wise, this phone is at a mid-range in the market, though it is being branded as a ‘luxury’ device due to its golden aesthetic.
Questions have been raised about where the phone will be manufactured, with many outlets saying that it is most likely to be produced in China. This would be especially ironic given Trump’s constant emphasis on American production and import tariffs.
The T1 phone and network also sees the Trump family moving into a heavily regulated industry, prompting concerns over conflicts of interest.
