Delroy Lindo has said that he is ‘thankful’ for the ‘support and love’ that both he and ‘Sinners’ co-star Michael B. Jordan have received following an incident involving Tourette’s Syndrome activist John Davidson at this year’s Baftas.
Delroy Lindo, ‘Sinners’ co-star alongside Michael B. Jordan, has said he is ‘thankful’ for the ‘support and love’ shown to the pair after an incident with Tourette’s Syndrome (TS) activist John Davidson at the 2026 Baftas.
Davidson shouted out a racial slur toward the two actors while they were presenting an award on stage. As a result of his TS, Davidson involuntarily yells words at random times, and has explained that he did not mean to cause harm.
‘We appreciate all the support and love that we have been shown,’ said Lindo on stage at the annual NAACP Image Awards in LA last week. ‘[It is] a classic case of something that could be very negative becoming a positive.’
After the Baftas, Davidson said he was ‘deeply mortified.’ He was in attendance as a film about his life and disability, ‘I Swear,’ was nominated for and eventually won three separate awards.
The slur was not edited out of the BBC’s pre-recorded broadcast, prompting an apology from the organisation. It says it plans to undertake a fast investigation into how the error was not spotted before the footage went live.
As with many issues, social media conversation has been fierce and polarising, with some taking issue with the slur itself, while others have targeted Davidson for his disability.
