Olivia Rodrigo launches ‘Fund 4 Good’ initiative for women

Singer and songwriter Olivia Rodrigo has announced a new initiative called ‘Fund 4 Good’ which will work to ‘support all women, girls, and people seeking reproductive health freedom’.

Olivia Rodrigo has unveiled a new initiative called ‘Fund 4 Good’ that will finance non-profit organisations championing girls’ education, supporting reproductive rights, and preventing gender-based violence.

The fund will operate in conjunction with Olivia’s GUTS world tour, which kicked off early this week. A portion of ticket sales will contribute to the initiative alongside the National Network of Abortion Funds in North America.

Filming herself backstage, Olivia said that she wanted to ‘talk about something I’m really excited about.’ She went on to say, ‘the fund will directly support community-based nonprofits’.

Fund 4 Good tables with resources for fans will be set up at all of her tour date venues.

Olivia has been a vocal advocate for women’s rights and health issues prior to this week’s announcements. During her Glastonbury set in 2022, she highlighted issues with the Supreme Court for its overruling of Roe v. Wade, stating that she was ‘devastated and terrified’.

She continued by dedicating a rendition of Lily Allen’s ‘Fuck You’ to the ‘five members of the Supreme Court who have showed us that, at the end of the day, they truly don’t give a shit about freedom’.

We’ve seen women’s rights to their own autonomy and birth control regress in the past few years, especially in the US. The Supreme Court and multiple states have begun banning or restricting access to legal abortions, a clear step backwards that leaves more women vulnerable and alienated.

According to studies conducted by the UN, gender disparities are worsening. We’ve seen many countries, including Afghanistan, Poland, China, South Korea, and Pakistan all attempt to push through restrictive legislation or smear feminist campaigns and initiatives.

Celebrity endorsements and funding for progressive issues seem particularly important as Gen Zers continue to become increasingly divided on political issues.

We wrote recently about how more young men are identifying with conservatist politics, favouring a growing right-wing rhetoric that puts women’s rights at risk.

Much of the global political conversation is reflecting this shift, as government officials and leaders mock transgender issues openly in parliament and promise a crackdown on gender-affirming care and resources. We are seeing a very tangible shift in human rights that could cause real harm to women and LGBTQIA+ communities.

Olivia’s Fund 4 Good effort is a welcome boost for women’s rights, and should be a catalyst for real education and change. You can visit the initiative’s official website here.
