Gossip Girl’s original costume designer to return for the reboot

With the iconic noughties show set to grace our screens later this year, fans will be delighted to know that Gossip Girl’s original costume designer will be returning to dress the new cast.

Since revealing last July that Gossip Girl would be returning, HBO Max has remained relatively tight-lipped about the forthcoming reboot. One crucial detail we have learned however, is that Eric Daman, the show’s original costume designer, has confirmed he’s onboard, news that has us more excited than ever for the spinoff’s eventual debut.

Officially signing on to reprise his role, Daman will be treating audiences with a new wave of head-turning, trendsetting outfits, the likes of which are the exact reason so many of us fell in love with the show in the first place. I mean, it just wouldn’t be the same without revamped school uniforms, headbands, and more designer combinations than we even thought possible, now would it?

It makes perfect sense therefore that HBO Max would want to impart Daman’s ridiculous, over-the-top sartorial standards onto the new generation of Upper East Siders, especially considering how much fashion has changed since 2007. What’ll be the 2020 version of Serena’s gold Cotillion dress I wonder? Or the entirety of Jenny Humphrey’s edgy wardrobe? ‘OMG I am so thrilled to be a part of the new GG Generation! It has been incredible to see the youth of today discovering and bingeing GG during these times,’ he tweeted. ‘Very excited to delight and inspire all of the GG Fans, new and OG, with some delicious, trendsetting fashions for this new era! Can’t Wait!! XoXo, E.’

It’s looking like the new series is going to be even more iconic than the original, particularly given that show runners have promised it has a much-needed casting change this time around with ‘non-white leads’ and ‘a lot of queer content.’ I personally can’t wait for this refreshingly updated reboot and I’m seriously looking forward to some fashion inspo as I’m feeling like a complete style overhaul will be necessary once lockdown’s over. A headband might be pushing it though. We’ll see.
