Billie Eilish partners with Google for a more sustainable tour

Through her partnerships with Google Maps, Reverb, Support+Feed, and Live Nation Billie is seeking to reduce the environmental impact of her upcoming tour.

Ahead of the start of her “Hit Me Hard and Soft” tour, Billie Ellish has announced a new partnership with Google Maps.

Typically, 70 percent of a concert’s total carbon footprint coming from emissions created by travel into the show. By launching this collaboration with Google, Billie is hoping to help fans make more sustainable choices when traveling to concerts.

As part of their collaboration, people looking to travel from home to concerts using Google Maps will receive recommendations that prioritise the use of public transportation when the distance and time traveled by car are similar.

In larger cities where private transportation is a must, concert-goers they will be recommended the route that is most efficient for optimising gas or energy consumption.

In select cities, including Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Los Angeles, and a few others, Google Maps will feature Billie Eilish’s favourite plant-based restaurant recommendations to encourage her fans in these locations to choose meat-free options.

But this will only be a part of the efforts that will be made. On the tour website. we can see some more of the dynamics that will be carried out to make Billie’s tour more eco-friendly. Amongst them are:

  • 100% sustainable merchandise, with clothing made with 100% recycled cotton organic cotton or recycled polyester.
  • Posters will be made of 100% recycled paper.
  • Water refill stations will be available at all the shows to reduce the use of disposable water bottles.
  • Eco-Action village where fans will be encouraged to take action to address climate change and our urgent environmental situation.
  • Plant-based food drives will be held in selected cities to raise awareness and collect food that will then be distributed to local communities.
  • Banning single-use plastics on Backstage.
  • Plant-based options at concessions at every venue.
  • A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Music Decarbonisation Project and the Climate Impact Fund both managed by the non-profit.

While we do not yet know the impact that these actions will have, what we can say for sure is that Billie Eilish with these actions is influencing thousands – if not millions – of fans to continue to educate themselves and make better decisions for our environment.

It also gives us hope that in the future, more artists will be encouraged to implement measures to reduce their tours’ environmental impact. This will urge the entertainment industry to move forward with more innovation and drive social change on a larger scale.
