King Charles shares broadcast and playlist with Apple Music

As part of an effort to jump into new media, King Charles has broadcast ‘The King’s Music Room’ via Apple Music, sharing his favourite songs and a few anecdotes from his life.

King Charles has collaborated with Apple Music to celebrate Commonwealth Day 2025.

‘The King’s Music Room’ is a broadcast and song playlist. Touted as a celebration of music from across the world, King Charles picks his favourite tracks and provides anecdotes on how each song has personally affected him. The broadcast was recorded at Buckingham Palace and became available on the 10th March 2025.

The playlist includes artists such as Bob Marley, Kylie Minogue, Grace Jones, Davido, RAYE, and more.

As part of the broadcast, King Charles said that music had ‘meant a great deal’ to him throughout his life, and said that 1920s and 30s songs were his particular favourites. The range of tracks on offer was surprisingly diverse, though some have questioned the authenticity of all these records really being his favourite.

This collaboration with Apple Music is part of an attempt by the Royals to better adapt and embrace the social media age.

In much the same way as Obama shares his own playlists each year, King Charles will no doubt want to improve the public image of an institution that is still largely seen as stiff, archaic and a little out of touch. Especially for many Gen Zers.

Greater personability will help to connect to younger audiences, and a collaboration with Apple Music also adds a new element of commerciality we’ve seldom seen before from the Royals. They’ve been able to poke fun at themselves – Queen Elizabeth once jumped into the Olympic Stadium with James Bond – but have largely steered away from brand endorsements or acknowledgements.

This also comes at the same time as Meghan Markle releases her Netflix series ‘With love, Meghan,’ which has been receiving mixed to negative reviews across the board.

Prince Harry also faced a barrage of criticism for his memoir ‘Spare’ a few years back, where excruciating personal details of his family life were publicly shared. South Park even took jabs at the couple with its joke on the ‘Worldwide Privacy Tour.’

The public reputation of the Royals has always been turbulent, to say the least. King Charles’ willingness to jump into new media shows progress, however, and suggests a modernisation of the family brand that may help to secure their long-term popularity with Gen Z.
