I’m Jessica (She/Her). I’m the Deputy Editor & Content Partnership Manager at Thred. Originally from the island of Bermuda, I specialise in writing about ocean health and marine conservation, but you can also find me delving into pop culture, health and wellness, plus sustainability in the beauty and fashion industries. Follow me on Twitter, LinkedIn and drop me some ideas/feedback via email.

Hey there, I’m Jess, the Deputy Editor & Content Partnership Manager at Thred.

Originally from Bermuda, I moved to London to get my Master’s degree in Media & Communications, and to start a new adventure in the big city.

In my free time you can find me with my nose in a book, working on my endless Spotify playlists, or meeting up with friends to enjoy a bite at our favourite restaurants.

After working for a couple years in Amsterdam, my love for telling a good story led me to join the team at Thred to spread the word about positive social change.

Millions of Chinese millennials abandon city life for rural areas

Big cities offer exciting job opportunities, a glamorousΒ social scene, and the convenience of a modern lifestyle. But are these things really what life is all about? Is city life draining you? Done with expensive commutes, high rent costs, low salaries, and being bombarded with up to 3,500 marketing messages everyday? Perhaps you need a break on a sweet potato farm. That’s what Chinese professionals had in mind when they joined a large-scale...

Are sustainable aviation fuels the future of flying?

Are sustainable aviation fuels the future of flying?

Reaching a net zero emissions target by 2050 will require innovation, particularly within the transport sector. SAFs could be the answer to cleaner, greener aviation. I’ll be honest, I love planes. They take us on holidays, get us closer to the people we love, and give us a fleeting bird’s eye view of the world below. They provide a chance to switch off with our favourite playlists, take a nap,...

Imagine walking into your doctor’s office and complaining about a series of worsening medical conditions, only to be told that you are suffering from climate change. NASA says it will put the first Black person on the moon in 2025

The next visit to the lunar surface is set to be the most diverse yet - and it’s about time. It may surprise you to know that only a dozen humans have ever touched down on the moon. Perhaps less surprising is the fact that those boasting β€˜moonwalker’ status are all white men. Although a relatively diverse set of astronauts have completed space travel (we’re not counting Bezos or Branson in...

Why is empathising with celebrity mental health issues so hard?

Celebrities struggle with mental health problems too - but can their public disclosure ever be useful when so many find it hard to truly believe them? Stigma around mental health struggles is diminishing. Workplaces are starting to take it seriously, discussing the subject more openly, while online spaces are becoming rife with advice on how to cope. But opening up about depression or anxiety is still inherently difficult. It requires being...

Achieving gender equality is a major key to solving climate change

Women and girls around the world face greater risks and burdens of climate change than their male counterparts, but their exclusion from positions of authority have prevented them from having a say in creating real solutions. Gender inequality is most evident within education, healthcare systems, and employment sectors - but it is also creating obstacles for solving the global threat of climate change. Though a warming world affects everyone, women are...

Tiffany & Co. taps into hypebeast culture with Supreme collab

The luxury jewellery and homeware brand is looking to expand its consumer market beyond Upper East Side dwellers and soon-to-be-engaged Millennials this fall. When you think of Tiffany & Co., you’re likely to think of the dainty, classic, minimal aesthetic of the 1960s, emulated most famously by Audrey Hepburn. Bill Gates wants to prepare us for the future of bioterrorism

Bill Gates wants to prepare us for the future of bioterrorism

Along with climate change and the ongoing pandemic, the multi-billionaire and brain behind Microsoft has coined bioterrorism as the next impending threat to humanity. The idea that somewhere in the world, somebody is in a laboratory plotting to release a deadly virus out into the global population sounds a lot like the storyline of an upcoming thriller film starring Liam Neeson. Maybe so, but Bill Gates has said that this could...

World leaders commit to halting deforestation by 2030

The first major deal of COP26 has been made, with over one hundred world leaders pledging to halt and reverse deforestation within the next decade. It’s all about the green - and no, I’m not talking money. We know trees - rainforests in particular - are important to keep our planet’s ecosystem in balance. They provide us with air to breathe, eliminate toxins from the atmosphere, and absorb CO2 down into...
