Evangelists are adamant that Christ is about return for judgement day, and TikTok is apparently the perfect place to get the message out.
We really got the ‘Rapture’ before GTA VI?
The hashtag #Rapture has over 3,000 hits on TikTok, and there’s a palpable feeling of trepidation among certain circles of the internet.
If you’re unfamiliar, firstly: you’re done for, and secondly: the Rapture refers to the prophetic event that Christ will return to Earth.
Well, technically, those deemed worthy of ascendance will literally rise into the sky for a mass meet-and-greet, while those of us who reject Christ’s love fumble around in the apocalypse dodging flames and plagues.

While there’s no mention of the Rapture in the Christian Bible, evangelists – that’s those who aim to convert people and claim a personal connection to God – have spoken of the event for centuries. Paul, one of the Apostles, wrote in his first letter to the Thessalonians that Jesus would return from heaven one day and ‘we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up.’
This is obviously where the imagery of people rising into the white beams of light comes from, whether depicted in 1800s tapestries or ChatGPT jpegs for Facebook. Of the roughly one-third of Americans that believe in the Rapture, many believe it will present as either salvation (in the form heavenly admission), or damnation (via horrendous tribulations akin to Job in the Old Testament).
This is why believers are so frantic in their TikTok protestations. There has been some 300,000 videos recently uploaded on the Rapture, and while some are obviously satirical and capitalising on virality, others are full of earnest Christians telling people to repent before Christ’s imminent return.
