The festival, organised by the music streaming platform Spotify, was a celebration of Mexican artists, culture, and tradition.Β
Last weekend β November 2nd and 3rd β the MEXCLA festival organized by Spotify took place. It had a 100 percent Mexican lineup, becoming the first festival of its kind in the country.
According to Spotify, the streams of Mexican artists have increased 100 percent year on year since 2013, making it one of the fastest-growing genres globally.
Gen Z is contributing to this increase, as young people reportedly listen to 36 percent more artists per month than any other generation.
Not only did Spotify celebrate Mexican musicians, but they also invited some of the country’s most viral podcasters to perform live shows or do the voiceover for one of the guided events.
The whole festival revolved around the celebration of Mexico with little nods to local culture and how music is enjoyed in the country. As the festival’s name suggests, the event followed the βferia del puebloβ or as called in English βvillage fairβ format.
