A new kind of refueling station has popped up in the Danish town of Sønderborg. Rather than filling up on petrol, the facility has been designed to allow drivers to ‘recharge their minds’ alongside their electric vehicles.
Most petrol stations only look good when captured on a retro film camera in low lighting, but the locations where we power up our vehicles could be about to get a massive makeover.
This is all thanks to the design team at EFFEKT, a Copenhagen-based architecture studio that is reimaging conventional petrol stations by turning them into resting spots that are both aesthetic and functional.
Centered inside a drive-in garden that is dotted with wildflowers, trees, and wooden benches, these modern ‘petrol stations’ are actually dynamic spaces fitted with charging outlets for customers who need to power up their electric vehicles (EVs).
By incorporating nature and resting spots into the structure’s design, the team at EFFEKT hopes the stations will also provide drivers with a place to ‘recharge their minds’ too.
