Netflix looked at the most infamous ethics disaster in psychology and thought: six episodes.

The New Stanford Prison Experiment lands mid-October. Thirty ‘willing’ participants (Netflix’s emphasis) go into a makeshift prison rigged with cameras, split into guards and prisoners, while producers watch whether empathy survives hierarchy and control.

The original, run by Philip Zimbardo at Stanford in 1971, was meant to last two weeks and was pulled after six days. Guards leant into the role fast: sleep deprivation, forced nudity, solitary confinement in a cupboard, sustained psychological torment. It’s now taught as a cautionary tale about power, and heavily criticised for its lack of scientific validity. None of which matters much when you’ve got a recognisable name and a setup built for discord.

From the platform currently marketing serial killers like an Avengers line-up. Consistent, at least.

Netflix has raised UK prices again, because of course it has.

The standard plan goes from £10.99 to £12.99 a month, the ads tier from £4.99 to £5.99. It’s the third UK rise in two years and lands as the platform pushes live sport and ad-supported tiers. Netflix says the money funds ‘more value’.

For context, the standard plan cost £8.99 in 2019. That’s a ~44% rise, roughly double UK inflation over the same period.

Who should get the blame when an AI acts illegally? Right now, rules and regulations are too watered down to pin any accountability on individuals.
Oasis and MJ are topping charts again, and Gen Z made it happen. Plus: ghost posting, hobbymaxxing, ketchup on a Sunday roast, the networking gap, and how Gen Z learned about 9/11. The week in Gen Z, around the web. Full stories on our Substack — link in bio.
Sweeney winds up the sports world, Macklemore loses a tour, sex workers print their own glossy, your degree can't cook chicken, your face is now pub ID, and Kai Cenat crashes NYFW. The week, around the web. Full stories on our Substack, link in bio.
Kenya could make university tuition free for students accepted through its national placement system. It is still only a proposal, but if approved, it could be a major step for Africa’s youth.

Stop trusting AI like it actually knows what it’s doing.

🤖 From hikers allegedly getting stranded after following Gemini advice to hilariously bad maths, AI can be incredibly convincing while being completely wrong.

Brain rot, loud budgeting, AI doctors, fewer relationships, and the “Gen Z stare” all point to the same thing. Young people are overwhelmed, but checking out might be a coping strategy, not apathy.

Gen Z is lonely, entrepreneurial, gym-obsessed, financially cautious, and increasingly nostalgic for a world before social media. Quite the combination. 🫠 Which trend says the most about being young in 2026?

More than half of England is officially in drought. Low rivers, struggling farms, rising wildfire risks, and water restrictions are challenging the idea of Britain as an endlessly wet country.

Are we ready for drought to become part of a normal British summer?
One of AI’s most annoying problems? Explaining the same context over and over again. Atlaso is building a shared memory layer across tools like Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and Claude Desktop. Could shared memory become the missing infrastructure for AI workflows?
