As part of the promotional material for his ongoing tour, Will Smith has been accused of posting AI generated images of crowds. The videos show hands with extra fingers and additional limbs.
Actor and musician Will Smith has been facing criticism online for what appears to be AI generated videos of crowds at his concerts.
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air star is currently touring in support of his latest album ‘Based on a True Story’ and is set to hit the UK soon. As part of the tour’s promotional material, Smith shared a video on his Instagram that showed a packed-out stadium at one of his shows.
However, upon closer inspection of the clip, it appears that many people have multiple fingers, hands, and limbs, with faces looking blurry and distorted.
Much of the movement in the crowd is also unnatural, prompting many online commentators to accuse Smith of posting a video that has – at least in part – been generated by AI.

Social media users were quick to voice their opinions.
‘Why are these AI people in the crowd? That’s embarrassing,’ said one person on Instagram.
A few other images show signs that may not be real, with one in particular referencing cancer and surviving a health struggle. ‘This is really disrespectful to real cancer patient survivors,’ commented another account. ‘Please delete this.’
The controversy surrounding Smith’s concert videos comes after several other notable AI issues within the music industry. Just a few months ago, a band called ‘The Velvet Sundown’ racked up one million plays on Spotify before revealing its music, branding and backstory were all fabricated using AI.
Early this year, Activision was also found to be testing poorly-made AI advertisements for a fake mobile Guitar Hero game, suggesting that the company was dipping its toe into automated content rather than commissioning real artists to create branded material.
