I’m Flo, (She/Her) a Senior Remote Writer at Thred. I recently completed a Masters in Visual Anthropology, and seek to interrogate the ways digital spaces can amplify marginalised voices in the arts and cultural sectors. Follow me on LinkedIn or ping me some feedback via email.

Hi, I’m Flo. I recently completed my Masters in visual, material, and museum anthropology, where I learnt about the many economies and communities that are woven together through consumption. I’ve always been creative at heart, and love painting in my spare time.

You can also find me deep in a book, or listening to the latest self-help podcast. As a fashion junkie with a penchant for inconveniently tiny bags, I am drawn to the ways social media amplifies marginalised voices within the industry.

I always enjoy clueing up on the latest ways our clothing shapes who we are.

My interests led me to team Thred, where I enjoy writing about arts, fashion, and literature from social change perspectives.

Opinion – Drake and Kendrick’s feud is a lose-lose for women

By now, you’ll know that Drake and Kendrick Lamar are far from friendly. After years of alleged hostility, both singers have released searing diss tracks that seem to have united a divided world; we can’t help but micro-analyse every lyric. But it’s not all popcorn and streams. Watching...

‘Women-only’ exhibit challenges gender discrimination charges

‘Ladies Lounge’ has taken a creative approach to deterring unwanted male visitors.  Tasmania’s Museum of Old and New Art (Mona) raised eyebrows when it launched an exhibition open only to women. Titled ‘Ladies Lounge’, the exhibit features works by American artist Kirsh Kaechele, and is designed as a commentary on misogynistic borders in the art world and beyond. However, the show was abruptly closed in April last year, when Sydney resident...

Youthforia faces backlash over new ‘inclusive’ foundation shade

The makeup brand Youthforia has highlighted the importance of due diligence when it comes to inclusivity and representation.  Inclusivity has become a paramount issue, particularly in the beauty industry. Opinion – Nike’s Olympic kits are an emblem of sports sexism

The sporting giant has come under fire over its women’s Track and Field kits. The backlash is long overdue. With the Paris Olympics just months away, major sporting brands are revealing their Olympic kits for the first time. But Nike got more than it bargained for this week when it shared images of the Team USA Track and Field uniforms. Far from online hype, the launch triggered a swathe of...

Opinion – McDonald’s U-turn on Alonyal shows power of protest

The fast-food giant has decided to buy-back all 225 of its Israeli outlets. Whether progressive or performative, the move proves there’s power in protest.  Since October 7th 2023, McDonalds’ global reputation has been heavily tarnished. The brand’s association with Israeli forces – which was established in the public consciousness when Alonyal Ltd, the franchise which owns nearly all of McDonalds’ Israeli outlets, provided free meals to Israeli troops – has sparked international boycotts....
