The popular sustainably packaged water brand now has plans to reach 2 million planted trees in partnership with the National Forest Foundation.
Boxed Water has managed to reach its 2020 goal of planting 1 million trees across the US after a five year social media campaign. It will now continue indefinitely with the initiative and is dedicated to planting another million in the near future.
Trees have been planted in various National Forestβs throughout the US including Sierra, Florida, Wisconsin, and Michigan, among others. Areas that are in desperate need of new trees due to wildfires, flooding, and other natural disasters are given priority, though demand for reforestation currently outweighs the influx of new trees.
Over 1 million acres of National Forest are still in need of reforestation in the US alone and weβre likely to see further demand as weather extremities continue to become more common as a result of climate change. Weβll need to see more companies take these kind of steps to help our forests this decade and this certainly is a great start.
If you want to get involved to help lower the gap, all you need to do is visit the Boxed Water submission page and name your tree, or post an Instagram picture with the hashtag #BetterPlanet. If you tag @BoxedWater on Twitter and Instagram thatβll work too, though you canβt name your tree if you do it that way. Which is the most important part of this whole thing, of course.
Boxed Water uses 92% plant-based packaging – the highest rate in the beverage industry – and only sources paper from well managed forests. Its cartons are shipped flat to reduce transportation needs and each one is both recyclable and refillable. Sustainable cardboard packaging like this is far better than traditional plastic bottles and as soon as these begin to replace our usual habits we could see dips in plastic production and consumption.
There are plenty of places you can donate cash if you want to get involved outside of Boxed Water too. Popular YouTuber Mr Beast also undertook a similar project last year, raising enough money to plant 22 million trees across the globe. The site still receives donations and remains active. Other projects include the Trillion Tree Campaign and the World Land Trustβs Plant a Tree initiative. 26 tree planting fundraisers are also available through Tree Nation, which operates internationally.
Hereβs to even more trees being planted through Boxed Water and other sustainable brands. Less plastic, more densely packed forests, and better packaging is all vital for the future of our planet, and you can name a newly planted tree whatever you like, which is true freedom.
