Instagram is bringing ‘Selfie Stickers’ to Stories

If your Instagram stories weren’t zhushy enough already, the social meccas are now testing a feature dubbed Selfie Stickers.

With social media platforms reporting peaks in user engagement throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, now seems the perfect time to introduce and test new features. Instagram are doing just that.

Over 500 million users were already viewing and uploading Instagram Stories every day before the virus. Now with studies showing an increase in user traffic, Insta are looking to maximise interest by giving us yet another feature to play around with.

Today a Twitter user called Vaclav Blahout uploaded a video appearing to showcase an early version of the Selfie Stickers feature. This new tool is housed within the existing stickers section and will allow users to overlay their selfies with graphics, effects, and emojis.

You may notice that the update hasn’t been rolled out in your region yet, but those who can access it can now toy around with a wide array of different effects – with the feature allowing for as many Selfie Stickers as you can fit in a single Stories frame.

If you were in any doubt (you weren’t), this latest innovation truly underlines Instagram’s desire to continue growing in the social media sphere in 2020. In the first three months of the year the platform has already added a ‘map sticker’ to reveal your location on Stories, has added ‘SlowMo’, ‘Echo’, and ‘Duo’ Boomerang modes, and has begun testing ‘Mirror’ mode for the Stories camera.

Let’s just hope all these new ideas continue getting the green light. Those of us on lockdown need snazzier ways of showing people we’re still stuck indoors.
