Hands up if you’ve ever thrown away food because it had outlived it has ‘best before’ date? Don’t worry, us too.

In an effort to reduce food waste, supermarkets are considering removing ‘best ‘before’ labels from selected products, and encouraging customers to use their common sense when assessing freshness.

Can customers be trusted not to eat an overly-squishy eggplant, or bite into a bruised-looking banana?
