YouTube launches fashion & beauty content hub

The social media giant is rolling out a channel that will focus specifically on style and showcase the talent of its most popular fashion and beauty vloggers.

I love a good YouTube session as much as the next gal. One minute you’re quickly looking at how to contour and the next you’ve been sucked into the void. It’s 10pm, you’ve cancelled your plans and you’re at home with a full face of – now skilfully applied – makeup, wondering where to go next.

Although, how often have you spent hours trawling through hundreds of videos, trying desperately to find the one you’re actually looking for?

That’s whereΒ SlashΒ comes in.

No more time wasted searching for fresh content because on Thursday, YouTube launched an entire β€˜vertical’ (separate hub) dedicated to fashion: your new go-to for everything style and beauty.

An access all areas guide to the fashion industry and beyond,Β SlashΒ is set to provide frequent users of the platform with a range of content from insider interviews, live streams of the most talked-about fashion shows, how-to tutorials, red carpet trends and closet tours.

Director of the project, Derek Blasberg, explains that it will also feature original content from β€˜the biggest names in the game, as well as what users have come to expect from the world of YouTube.’

What we didn’t expect, however, was three individual channels run by Alexa Chung, Victoria Beckham, and Naomi Campbell – it’s honestly a dream come true.

Whether you want to update your wardrobe for the coming season, tune in live to fashion week (full disclosure I haven’t stopped obsessing over the latest catwalk footage from NYFW) or have a sneak peek at your favourite celebrity’s beauty routine,Β SlashΒ is where you’ll find it all.

β€˜Our goal is to makeΒ YouTube.com/FashionΒ a diverse and inclusive place, filled with the latest fashion and beauty trends, content and more,’ said Derek. β€˜We’ll be working over the coming months to bring more international voices to the page and localize for global markets.’

If you don’t hear from me for the next few days, it’s because I’m making it my mission to watch every. single. video that’s currently on there. Jokes aside though, YouTube have definitely succeeded in harnessing the popularity of their style and beauty related content, and I’m looking forward to seeing whetherΒ SlashΒ takes off.

Plus, it’s bound to be a one-stop shop for any research into rising trends in this sector which I think will present a great opportunity for advertisers and marketers to know what us consumers really want (a.k.a. how many of us searched – and bought – the knock-off equivalent of a new Dior bag we just saw Cara Delevingne wearing).
