The weirdest gaming mods ever made

Our favourite video games can get a little dull once we’ve poured hundreds of hours into them. Luckily, the internet has plenty of bizarre and downright concerning gaming mods to keep us coming back for more.

Skyrim’s dragons are all well and good, but do you ever wish you could swap them out for disturbing, killer Thomas The Tank Engine characters? Nothing strikes fear into the heart of a Nord like the haunting ring of a ‘toot toot’.

Someone decided to put Nicholas Cage in The Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask

Actor and accidental meme Nicholas Cage has had his likeness embedded into a variety of films, games, and YouTube videos. He has become an ongoing and seemingly never-ending recurring reference online. Someone even put him onto every character in Friends.

After looking at this video we’re not sure we’ll ever sleep again and now you won’t either. You’re welcome. Misery loves company.

Somebody out there obviously saw this, however, and decided it just didn’t go far enough. The Legend Of Cage is a custom mod for the Nintendo 64 title Majora’s Mark, in which Link’s face, shield, and pretty much every other possible surface is covered in Nicholas Cage’s face.

Are we freaked out? Yes. Are we unable to stop staring out of sheer curiosity and terror? Yes.

We’re not sure why you’d want this, or even who asked for it, but it exists nonetheless.

Thanks, internet?

You can turn toddlers into murderers on The Sims 4

If, like us, you find that The Sims is lacking a certain edge, then this one’s for you. When we say ‘edge’, we mean two-year-old knife-wielding killers, hell bent on eradicating all life, of course. This mod possesses the children of The Sims universe and turns them into scheming, deadly murderers.

Titled ‘Deadly Toddlers Mod’, players are given new options to attack, set things on fire, or ask NPCs to be partners in crime. Death will show up at the crime scene once the deed is done, after which you can choose to continue on your chaotic rampage or resume your life as a clueless infant.

Consider us concerned.

Your horse can be swapped for a My Little Pony on Skyrim

Thomas isn’t the only children’s character being forced on a game universe it clearly wasn’t meant for. My Little Pony has also fallen victim to the mod treatment and is available for Skyrim’s Special Edition.

Ever wanted to ride a cutesy, bubble-gum coloured cartoon pony around Tamriel? No? Well, that’s fair enough, but the option is still there.

Each comes in a wide variety of sizes, with some towering over nearby buildings and making once-intimidating dragons seem puny by comparison. A wealth of stylistic options are available, including rainbow manes, blue fur, and popping, bright eyes.

They can all be used in the game world to speedily cover large distances with great efficiency, though this may detract from the seriousness of your carefully selected medieval attire somewhat.

You can’t teach this kind of style, Hun.

Fallout 4 has an option to turn the moon into Bob Ross

Similar to Nicholas Cage, Bob Ross has now forever been immortalised through meme culture, often used as a niche reference or for a wholesome piece of viral content. Who doesn’t love a man with an afro painting clouds on national television?

It seems Fallout 4 players feel the same way, as one particular modder decided to swap out the normal moon for a shining portrait of Bob’s face. Look at that full grin beaming down from the heavens. That’s enough to distract even the most intense of gamers.

Fallout 4 has plenty of other weird and wacky mods, including one that turns your background into an image of Taylor Swift, another that makes your dog entirely red, and one that lets you hit enemies with their own limbs. Useful they aren’t, but entertaining they most certainly are.

Just keep your eyes on that in-game moon.

Exploding Samsung Galaxy Note 7s are a weapon in GTA V

As much as Samsung is probably keen for us all to forget, there was a period during 2016 when its smartphone flagship, the Note series, was prone to exploding.

Yes, that little device in your pocket would occasionally combust for seemingly unknown reasons. A phone’s probably not much use after losing your ear drums, and Samsung was quick to recall every Note 7 that was on the market at the time.

Modders wasted no time in ridiculing the situation, rolling out a feature that allowed players to purchase Galaxy Note 7s in GTA V ammo shops and use them to, well, blow things up. They replaced the traditional grenade and were able to cause considerable damage in the game world.

Samsung even tried to take videos of its use in the game down on the basis of defamation, but eventually gave up. As of writing this, you’re allowed to use Note 7s to blow up anything your heart desires.
