New shopping platform NTWRK gets backing from Drake

The new E-commerce platform aimed at Millennials and Gen Z just received second round funding from Drake and Live Nation Entertainment.

When was the last time you hit up your local high street to purchase the latest tech, clothes, or games? Withย over half of usย now shopping more online than we do in-store, it shouldnโ€™t come as a shock that market-leading brands and small start-ups alike are attempting to make their mark on the digital purchasing space.

Whether itโ€™s creating new tools on Instagram to integrate shopping more seamlessly into the user experience, or creating an entirely new app from scratch, thereโ€™s now more ways than ever to pick up products on the web.

You can add Ntwrk to that list, which aims high-end celebrity endorsed products to Millennials and Gen Z and looks like it could be making industry waves in the near future. At least, Drake seems to think so.

What is Ntwrk?

With the self-proclaimed intention of allowing โ€˜shopping at the speed of cultureโ€™, Ntwrk is a standalone app and website that hosts live streams, โ€˜shoppable episodesโ€™, and exclusive drops. You can tune in at certain times each day for special releases from a wide variety of brands, though the focus is mostly streetwear and limited art merchandise.

If youโ€™re in need of some top-quality gear and want something youโ€™ll only be able to grab for limited times, Ntwrk is probably up your street. They offer big discounts too โ€“ with ongoing raffles for items such as Louis Vuitton bags and Nike sneakers at a fraction of their resale prices. The company is aiming to make the shopping experience interactive and fast-paced, with incentive to frequently return to the platform.

So, you could save a buck and look cool doing it.

Who has invested?ย

Drake isnโ€™t the only A-lister whoโ€™s put money into the project. Despite being less than twelve months old, Ntwrk has bagged backing from Warner Bros. Entertainment and Jimmy Iovine. The CEO, Aaron Levant, previously created the ComplexCon festival and founded Agenda, the famous fashion trade show. Investors clearly view him as a safe pair of hands.

With Drake now behind the company, we could see even more names come on board in the future. We should also expect more celebs such as ASAP Rocky and Juice Wrld to continue to use the platform to sell and promote their own lines of clothing and merchandise, given that theyโ€™ve already used it for several item runs in the past.

Is this the future of shopping?

While Ntwrk may not be the future of consumerism exactly, given that its general emphasis is on elite brands and street style, it could be an indication of how younger audiences are looking to purchase items.

Itโ€™s not simply a case of clicking and waiting for packages anymore. This is 2019 and we want experiences. Event sales, streaming video on products, and opportunities to give feedback and get in contact are all demands unique to us younger folks. Growing up in a digital era, itโ€™s not enough just to show us a shop window.

Ntwrk takes on board these ideas. Its website and app have an aura of mystique and premium quality about them, with as much stress on timely content and interactivity as the items themselves. Contactless and virtual pay has also made transactions easier.

In short, we want quick, easy, all-round experiences that feel like more than just a click and receive transaction. Given Ntwrkโ€™s success in less than a year and its high level of interest from industry experts, its clear that the companyโ€™s onto something. We should expect more of this as time goes on โ€“ Facebook has its own marketplace where people can chat and trade, browser extensions such as Honey offer discount codes on the fly, and promoters can now directly link customers to their products.

The shopping revolution is slowly unfolding, one app at a time.
