Come together with Stella McCartney’s New Collection

Inspired by The Beatles, Stella McCartney’s vibrant new collection comes with a powerful message to release our inner activist.

Unity is the driving force behind the riotous, lyric-led pieces of Stella McCartney’s brand-new clothing range that embodies the psychedelic feel of Yellow Submarine, an animated film about The Beatles that was created in 1968. The world-famous band are renowned for the way they revolutionised music, and for their timeless message of inclusivity. Both of these elements come alive in McCartney’s recent work.

‘I recently went to a screening with family and friends for the digital relaunch of [the film],’ says McCartney. ‘I hadn’t seen it since I was young, and honestly it blew my mind. It affected me in a way I just wasn’t expecting. Especially this idea of connecting people and bringing people together – politically this message has never been more relevant.’

A unique fusion of fashion, colour and music, the collection is now available online and in stores. It includes items for men, women, and children that feature the British band’s classic iconography as well as eccentric graphics from the film.

Personally, I think it’s fab, especially the maxi dress embroidered with prints from the Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds scene or the All You Need Is Love sweater (which goes with pretty much anything).

Debuted by Billie Eilish during her first-ever Glastonbury performance this year, the bold collection is aimed towards Gen Z, conveying themes of peace, love, and togetherness that are especially important today.

‘It’s shockingly modern to me that these four young guys from Liverpool were championing themes of unity and solidarity. It really felt like the time to ‘come together’’, says the designer.

Channeling McCartney’s interest in the psychological connection between how you feel and what you wear, I think it’s safe to say that the authentic clothing and campaign alongside it is a true embodiment of expression.

The funky jackets, dresses, coats and jeans – to name a few of the 85 total designs – are all emblazoned with empowering motifs and writing that pay homage to the uplifting music of The Beatles – which remains loved by so many to this day.

‘The colors, psychedelia, patterns and prints all hit me hard creatively,’ says McCartney. ‘There are extreme pieces that are more obvious, brazen and in your face — taking the idea of being in a fan club, having an absolute passion, and translating it into high fashion. And [there are] moments of it [communicated] in a very subtle way, so you would never know it came from Yellow Submarine.’

And of course, as a pioneer of sustainability it only makes sense that McCartney’s innovative collection is completely eco-friendly and advocates a clear message of the urgent need to save our planet. The clothes are totally leather and fur-free, using 100% recycled cotton, regenerated cashmere and organic denim.

‘I don’t want to participate in the mass murder of animals and the environmental destruction this creates, outside of the overwhelming waste in the industry,’ she says. ‘Designing in a timeless way is key to sustainable fashion, and this is a collectable collaboration you won’t want to throw away.’
