How to turn your lockdown snacks into clothing

I’m assuming that, like most of us, you’re probably stuck in quarantine right now. So why not turn your snack cupboard into wacky, wearable fashion?

Have you ever looked at the foods available in your kitchen and wondered what they’d be like as fashionable street wear? What do you mean no?

Nicole McLaughlin, a former designer for Reebok, has looked at her food stash a little different to most of us. She creates upcycled clothing, footwear, and household items from a variety of snack foods that most of us stock up on regularly. Think cola sweet packets, gummy bears, popcorn, and you’ve just about got the right idea.

Her work isn’t just limited to clothing, either. McLaughlin also creates other novelty items such as suitcases and deck chairs from pre-existing materials. You can check more of them out on her Instagram here.

McLaughlin’s work is built to go viral, but also attempts to focus on sustainability and recycling. All of her pieces are made from previously owned items and household materials, encouraging creativity within the domestic space. She makes a point to heavily display logos and branding too, no doubt a fun poke at the marketing campaigns of big fashion names – including her previous employer Reebok.

While under normal circumstances these would be quirky enough pieces worth mentioning as is, they have a certain extra charm in the context of the coronavirus pandemic. Keeping yourself entertained during lockdown is a very real concern, so why not use that extra time to try and fashion yourself some original Haribo merchandise?
